A network of thieves specializing in cryptocurrency heists has been operating in popular Spanish tourist areas, according to an investigation by the National Police. The probe led to the arrest of a 23-year-old man suspected of stealing 33,000 USDT from a foreign tourist in Playa del Inglés on December 31st.

The victim was assaulted and had his mobile phone snatched by two young men who were talking to him at a shopping center. After accessing his laptop, the tourist discovered that all his cryptocurrency funds had been transferred to a private wallet.

Investigations revealed that the stolen funds passed through various cryptocurrency exchange platforms and some of it was converted into euros. The authorities were able to link the stolen assets to the main suspect and detected subsequent payments made in food, leisure, and travel establishments in Alicante and Madrid.
