THORChain 3.20 Unlocks Direct Swaps for Monero and Zcash
The decentralized exchange THORChain has announced the launch of its latest protocol upgrade, version 3.20. This significant update introduces native support for Monero (XMR) and Zcash (ZEC) swaps with Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), and stablecoins.
Users can now swap these privacy-focused cryptocurrencies directly through THORChain without going through centralized intermediaries. Unlike other exchanges, THORChain does not require wrapped versions of XMR or ZEC, nor do users need to deposit their assets with a custodian before making a trade.
This new route provides a direct connection for privacy-coin holders to move between these cryptocurrencies and the larger crypto market. Monero's access has been limited due to regulatory concerns, but THORChain 3.20 offers an alternative solution that maintains self-custody.
The upgrade also introduces a Stable Reserve, which enables stablecoin-to-stablecoin swaps without liquidity fees, as well as Protocol-Owned Liquidity (POL), allowing the protocol to deploy its own capital across the network. Additionally, THORChain has renewed support for Solana, Base, and BNB, expanding its cross-chain infrastructure.
