Three Entities Can Influence Block Production on Bitcoin and Ethereum
A new study by Glassnode and Ark Invest has shed light on the degree of decentralization across major blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Solana.
The report analyzed the computing power or stake required to influence block production and found that Bitcoin and Ethereum each need only three entities to reach a threshold that could significantly impact block production.
In contrast, Solana would require 19 entities to achieve the same level of influence. The study emphasized that these figures do not translate to direct control over a network but rather reflect the concentration of computing power or stake.
The researchers also examined the infrastructure and distribution of nodes across each blockchain. Bitcoin's nodes were found to be relatively evenly distributed geographically, with about 63% operating through Tor, an anonymous communications network.
