Ties Between Trump-Backed World Liberty and Abu Dhabi Royal Exposed
World Liberty Financial (WLFI), the company behind the dollar-backed stablecoin USD1, has been in the news again due to its ties with Abu Dhabi's Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed al Nahyan. According to a report, investors linked to Sheikh Tahnoon control a 49% stake in WLTC Holdings, which was created for World Liberty's planned bank.
The ownership structure is significant because it adds to the existing financial ties between the UAE-linked investors and World Liberty. The company previously received a $500 million investment from these same investors, giving them a 49% interest in World Liberty itself.
This new development comes as World Liberty pushes deeper into regulated financial services. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency recently granted the company preliminary conditional approval to establish a federally chartered national trust bank. However, the bank must still meet additional requirements before it can begin operations.
