TikTok Crypto Scam on the Rise: Singaporean Retiree Loses Over S$70k
A 68-year-old retiree in Singapore lost over S$70k to a TikTok crypto scam, according to recent police reports.
The victim, who wishes to remain anonymous, was approached by a woman on TikTok in early November 2025. She claimed to work for an AI-powered investment platform called AI Robots and asked him to help manage her account in exchange for a share of the profits.
Ng trusted the scammer because she 'talked like a friend' and he wanted extra income for his retirement, so he agreed to help. He opened his own account on the platform and began investing S$1,000 to S$5,000 in cryptocurrency every two to three days.
Despite seeing his balance grow, Ng was unable to withdraw his funds, as 'customer service' claimed that they were blocked due to a poor internet connection. He was asked to invest an additional S$50k to recover his money and eventually lost S$70,755 over about three months from November 2025 to January 2026.
