Tlaib's Crypto Holdings Contradict Her Skepticism on Digital Assets
Representative Rashida Tlaib, a Michigan Democrat and member of the 'Squad', has been vocal about her skepticism towards the crypto industry. She co-sponsored the STABLE Act in 2020, which aimed to impose strict regulations on stablecoin issuers.
However, according to congressional finance aggregator Quiver Quant, Tlaib holds shares in a Grayscale Ethereum Staking Mini ETF inside her Schwab Roth IRA. The disclosure shows that out of her estimated net worth of $852K, approximately $226K is allocated across IRA holdings, with the crypto exposure coming entirely through this single ETF position.
The 2023 financial disclosure showed no prior public ETF exposure noted in Tlaib's portfolio, which consisted of traditional mutual funds and 529 education savings plans. This shift in her investment approach has sparked attention, highlighting a growing trend among lawmakers to invest in digital assets.
Tlaib is not the only member of Congress with crypto exposure; disclosure trackers have documented a number of lawmakers holding digital asset ETFs, Coinbase stock, or direct token positions. The normalization of crypto investment products has made it easier for traditional investors, including politicians, to gain exposure through familiar brokerage platforms.
