Tlaib's Crypto Holdings Exposed: Democrat Opposes Legislation with $30k in Bitcoin and Ethereum Investments
Michigan Democrat Rep. Rashida Tlaib has been a vocal critic of cryptocurrency legislation in Congress, but her latest financial disclosure reveals she holds significant investments in Bitcoin and Ethereum through her retirement accounts.
Tlaib's filing lists up to $15,000 in an Ethereum-linked exchange-traded fund and another $15,000 in a Bitcoin ETF, both held through a Charles Schwab retirement account. This is in addition to 41 separate holdings across her retirement and investment accounts, which also include international funds focused on European and Asian markets, as well as a Detroit rental property valued at up to $250,000.
Tlaib's voting record raises questions about her stance on cryptocurrency, as she has opposed major legislation aimed at establishing a regulatory framework for digital assets. She voted against the CLARITY Act and supported a resolution addressing 'crypto corruption.' The disclosure does not establish that Tlaib personally traded the assets or that her investments influenced her votes.
The crypto-linked investments are part of a broader trend in Washington, where lawmakers are preparing to revisit digital-asset rules as the Trump administration pushes for a clearer regulatory framework. The proposed framework would clarify how digital assets are regulated and which federal agencies oversee different parts of the market.
