Trump Media & Technology Group has surpassed Tesla to become the 12th-largest Bitcoin treasury company, according to recent data from BitcoinTreasuries.net. As of August 11, 2026, TMTG holds 12,062 BTC, edging past Tesla's 11,509 BTC. This milestone comes nearly a year after the company announced plans to raise $2.5 billion through a combination of equity and convertible debt to build a Bitcoin treasury.

The strategy behind TMTG's move into Bitcoin dates back to May 2025, when the company stated its intention to use the funds for direct Bitcoin purchases. By July 2025, they had deployed roughly $2 billion of that capital into BTC, with an average acquisition price of around $118,500 per coin.

TMTG's move has sparked a comparison with Tesla's own approach to Bitcoin. In 2021, Tesla bought roughly $1.5 billion worth of BTC and held onto it, neither adding to nor selling down the core position since then. TMTG, on the other hand, has taken a more active posture, with large on-chain transfers and partnership decisions playing out in public view.
