Token Holders Should Share in Protocol Profits, Expert Argues
The crypto industry is undergoing significant changes as decentralized protocols start to generate real revenue and profits. According to Jeff Dorman, Chief Investment Officer of Arca, this shift is a crucial innovation in the digital asset field.
Dorman argues that token holders should be able to share in the profits generated by these protocols, just like shareholders do with traditional companies. However, he notes that this connection between protocol economics and token economics may be more important for tokens than the relationship between company profits and stocks.
The generation of revenue by a protocol does not necessarily mean that its token has value. Dorman emphasizes that exogenous cash flow from real business is key to long-term value growth of token holders.
He suggests that token buybacks can be a direct mechanism to connect protocol success with the value of token holders, but notes that this doesn't mean every protocol should immediately use all its revenue to buy back tokens. In fact, it's often better for protocols to reinvest capital in growth opportunities rather than returning profits directly to shareholders.
