The tokenized assets market saw its first monthly decline since January 2026 in August, with real-world asset (RWA) perpetual trading volume falling by 13.5% to $122 billion, according to CryptoRank.

This pullback broke six straight months of growth and coincided with the wider crypto market's broadest rally of 2026, where 83% of the top 100 assets closed higher.

The decline in RWA volume is attributed directly to the shift in traders' attention to major cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin and Ethereum, which saw significant gains in August. Bitcoin returned 25%, its strongest August since 2017, while Ethereum gained 32.5%.

CryptoRank noted that once the majors started offering directional beta again, perp DEX traders stopped needing real-world assets to find it.
