Tokenized Assets Market Surges Past $7.5 Billion, Gold Dominates
The tokenized assets market has experienced explosive growth in the past year, tripling from $2 billion to $7.5 billion by July 2026. This surge in value is largely driven by gold, which has become a key player in the space. Tokenized gold, specifically, has crossed the $6 billion market cap threshold and now accounts for the majority of the total.
The two top performers in this category are Tether Gold (XAUT) and Pax Gold (PAXG), both backed by physical gold reserves. Other tokens such as PRIME, KAU, and KAG have also carved out smaller positions.
However, the growth of tokenized assets extends beyond precious metals. By June 2026, a broader range of products had begun to emerge, including tokenized treasuries, real estate fractions, and commodity baskets. This diversification has brought the total value of the market in line with estimates ranging from $20 billion to $60 billion.
The appeal of tokenization lies in its ability to provide liquidity, accessibility, and efficiency for institutional investors. Traditional commodities markets often have settlement times measured in days, whereas tokenized versions settle in minutes. This has led many institutions to take notice, recognizing the potential benefits of 24/7 trading windows, programmable compliance through smart contracts, and the use of tokenized assets as collateral in DeFi protocols.
