Tokenized Real-World Assets Surge Amid DeFi Decline
Tokenized real-world assets have seen significant growth in decentralized finance (DeFi), despite the sector as a whole experiencing a decline. According to a report from CoinShares and Token Terminal, deposits tied to tokenized real-world assets have more than tripled over the past year, reaching $7.4 billion. This represents a stark contrast to the overall DeFi market, which saw total deposits fall by around 15% during the same period.
The growth in tokenized asset deposits can be attributed to the increasing demand for utility-driven assets. Tokenized Treasury and multi-strategy funds, such as JTRSY, BUIDL, and sUSDS, have been driving this trend. These funds package traditional yield-bearing instruments into on-chain tokens that can move and settle like any other crypto asset.
Aave (AAVE), Morpho (MORPHO), and Kamino (KMNO) held the deepest liquidity pools for these tokenized assets, which is essential for their functionality as collateral. The CEO of CoinShares, Jean-Marie Mognetti, views this growth as structural rather than cyclical, suggesting that it's driven by demand from utility rather than speculation.
