Tokenized Stocks Boom: Robinhood Chain, BNB Chain, and Solana Lead the Way
Grayscale has identified three blockchains as leading the tokenized stock boom in recent weeks. Robinhood Chain, BNB Chain, and Solana are handling most of the trading activity in this sector. According to Grayscale's research note, weekly spot volume for tokenized stocks peaked near $3 billion in early August.
However, despite the high trading volumes, it appears that investors are not using these tokens for on-chain finance. Only about 5% of the tokenized equity market is being put to work in this way, Grayscale reported. This suggests that traders are primarily interested in round-the-clock trading and access from anywhere.
The value locked in tokenized stocks has passed $110 million, according to data from Allium, but this remains far below the billions changing hands every week. Lending is starting to catch up, with holdings inside Kamino and Jupiter, two Solana lending protocols, growing roughly tenfold in a year.
The SEC has discussed an innovation exemption for tokenized securities, which would allow them to trade under safeguards such as verified participants and compliance-ready token standards. This could help to increase the use of tokenized stocks as collateral. However, regulators have not yet finalized this rulemaking process.
