Tokenized Stocks Drive Robinhood Chain Fee Growth Amid Controversy
Robinhood Chain's trading mix is shifting towards tokenized stock pairs, which now account for about 27% of total trading volume. This change has led to a significant increase in fees, with the network generating $2.13 million in the past 24 hours, according to DefiLlama.
Bernstein attributed the demand for tokenized stocks to automated market-making pools on Uniswap that pair memecoins with stock tokens and create 'reflexive demand' for both sides of those trading pairs.
The same mechanism is driving the network's ability to scale trading activity across liquid markets as tokenized equities attract liquidity and paired trading flows.
According to Bernstein, this shift could lead to $160 million in annual fees by 2028. However, not everyone is convinced of the benefits of tokenized stocks. Adam Aron, CEO of AMC Entertainment Holdings, has called the offering 'outrageous' and said that AMC will request an investigation from its outside securities counsel.
The operational disruption caused by a halt in block production with transactions frozen for at least 14 minutes is also raising concerns about the stability of the network.
