Tokenized Stocks Near $1.4B in Value as Major Players Build Blockchain Infrastructure
The tokenized stock market has reached an impressive value of approximately $1.4 billion, with Ondo Finance holding around 60% of that total, estimated at $888 million.
Major players like Nasdaq and the Intercontinental Exchange are building infrastructure to support tokenized stock trading, which would allow for near-instant settlement and 24/7 trading.
This concept is not new, with Overstock's t0 platform exploring blockchain-based stock settlement as far back as 2016. More recently, NYSE announced plans for a blockchain platform targeting 24/7 tokenized stock trading in January 2026, and Robinhood launched its own blockchain on July 1, 2026.
The SEC's innovation exemption framework is seen as a significant departure from previous regulatory approaches, allowing for the creation of parallel pathways for tokenized securities. However, some regulators and market structure experts argue that certain delays in the current system serve as shock absorbers during market crises, preventing cascading failures.
