TON Bridge Shutdown Deadline Looms: Return Wrapped Tokens by September 1
The TON Bridge is shutting down on September 1, 2026, and holders of Wrapped TON (TONCOIN) and j-tokens must return them to their respective networks by then.
Wrapped TON is a proxy token issued on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, while j-tokens are stablecoins and other tokens brought over from Ethereum to the TON network. The bridge connects Toncoin with Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, allowing users to transfer assets between these chains.
The shutdown affects only Wrapped TON holdings on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain, as well as j-tokens created in return on TON. Native Toncoin in a TON wallet is not affected by the bridge closure.
According to Cryptopolitan, the bridge handled 31,893 transfers totaling over 101 million TON without any successful attacks over its lifetime. The operator has cited newer transfer routes that manage without wrappers and carry residual risk as reasons for shutting down the bridge.
