TON Bridge Shutdown Leaves 11.3 Million Tokens Stuck
The TON bridge at bridge-v3.ton.org has permanently shut down, affecting holders of Wrapped TON on Ethereum and BNB Smart Chain. The shutdown occurred on September 1, 2026, as announced in May.
The total amount of Wrapped TON still stuck is approximately 11.3 million tokens. Of these, around 81.9% are held on Ethereum and 18.1% on BNB Smart Chain. Redemptions have slowed down significantly since August 21, with only a few hundred tokens redeemed in the last week.
The shutdown of the TON bridge means that holders can no longer redeem their Wrapped TON for Toncoin. The wrapped token's price now hangs solely on the expectation that someone will reopen the redemption route. This highlights the importance of understanding proxy tokens and their underlying mechanics.
