Tottenham Spurs Ahead in Premier League Crypto Adoption
Tottenham Hotspur's recent friendly match in New Zealand against Auckland FC drew a record-breaking crowd, but what caught attention was not just the football, but also the club's growing involvement with fan tokens. The $SPURS token, launched through a partnership with Socios.com on Chiliz Chain, has been quietly trading since late 2023.
The token gives holders access to polls, rewards, and unique experiences, and currently trades at around $0.125 with modest daily volume. In July 2024, Tottenham took its crypto adoption a step further by partnering with Kraken as its first official crypto and Web3 partner. This deal includes sleeve sponsorship, placing the Kraken logo on every Spurs jersey.
The partnership also focuses on fan education about digital assets and ongoing digital initiatives. The Chiliz ecosystem hosts fan tokens for dozens of major clubs, including FC Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, and Juventus, with Tottenham's $SPURS token sitting in the middle of the pack in terms of trading activity.
Notably, there were no crypto-related announcements tied to the Auckland match itself, suggesting that Tottenham views its crypto integrations as long-term brand plays rather than event-driven marketing stunts. The market impact on the $SPURS token was also minimal following the fixture.
