TradFi-Linked Perpetuals Overtake Bitcoin in Binance Futures Trading Volume
A significant shift in the cryptocurrency derivatives market has occurred on Binance, as perpetual futures tied to traditional finance (TradFi) assets have surpassed Bitcoin in trading volume. According to data from K33 Research, TradFi-linked perps reached a 30-day average trading volume of $15.59 billion, nearly double the $7.39 billion recorded for Bitcoin perpetual futures over the same period.
The rise of TradFi-linked perpetuals on Binance marks a notable increase in market interest beyond Bitcoin. As of mid-August, these products accounted for more than one-third of Binance's total perpetual futures trading volume, up from around $3 billion in daily volume at the start of the year.
This trend indicates a broadening of market interest and a maturing derivatives market that offers more granular exposure to traditional financial instruments within a crypto-native trading environment. The shift in trading volume suggests that market participants are seeking alternative avenues for leverage and hedging, potentially due to a lack of direct catalysts for Bitcoin price appreciation.
The growth in TradFi-linked perps is not just a blip but a sustained trend, with volumes climbing steadily since January. This could signal a structural change in how traders engage with crypto derivatives, favoring products that bridge traditional and digital asset markets.
