Trafficking Group Warns Senate Against Crypto Bill Provision
An anti-human trafficking group is urging U.S. senators to reject the House-passed Digital Asset Market Clarity Act of 2025, citing concerns that a provision in the bill could create 'blind spots' for bad actors.
The bill aims to clarify regulatory uncertainties and vulnerabilities in the digital asset sphere and provide stronger consumer protections. It would define cryptocurrencies, require cryptocurrency brokers and dealers to register with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission, and follow Bank Secrecy Act rules similar to those of normal banks.
Katie Gosewisch, executive director of the Alliance to End Human Trafficking, argued that Section 604 of the bill creates a safe harbor for developers and providers of digital asset technology or blockchains, which could extend beyond neutral software developers to platforms and services used by criminals.
