Treasury Buyback Sends Bitcoin Price Soaring Above $80,000
The U.S. Treasury executed a $12.5 billion cash-management debt buyback on September 3, drawing attention from Bitcoin traders.
The operation aimed to support market liquidity by targeting short-dated nominal coupons maturing between October 2026 and September 2028.
Bitcoin's price jumped above $80,000 after the news, with some analysts suggesting that lower yields and easier liquidity conditions could boost BTC price momentum.
However, Glassnode researcher Frederik Theissen noted that Bitcoin had stalled below a key supply band between $83,000 and $86,000 in August's short squeeze, making it unclear whether the Treasury operation was a catalyst for the price increase or just a reaction to macroeconomic factors.
