Treasury Liquidity Boost Could Propel Bitcoin Towards $100K
Standard Chartered analyst Geoff Kendrick has argued that US Treasury's plan to boost liquidity support for longer-dated government bonds could align with Bitcoin's cycle timing, potentially leading to a price increase towards $100,000 by year-end 2026. According to Kendrick, this setup is exactly the kind of liquidity intervention that Bitcoin tends to benefit from, citing the asset's fixed supply and historical reaction to macro liquidity shifts.
The Treasury announced on Wednesday that it will at least double the maximum size of certain buyback operations for longer-dated government securities, with the expanded program set to run from Sept. 9 through Nov. 4. This move is aimed at stabilizing yields after a bond selloff and easing pressure across broader financial markets.
Kendrick identified $65,500 as a key technical inflection level for Bitcoin, suggesting that if the market breaks above this threshold, it would reinforce the idea that the current cycle low has already formed. This could set up a move towards $100,000 by year-end 2026, although Kendrick emphasized that this is conditional and not guaranteed.
Bitcoin responded positively to the news, surging over 6% to near $69,000 in US late-morning trading, according to CoinMarketCap. However, it remains to be seen whether the Treasury's buyback program will have a lasting impact on market conditions or just produce a short-term relief rally.
