Treasury Seeks Public Comment on GENIUS Act Stablecoin Regulations
The U.S. Treasury Department is seeking public comment on the implementation of new stablecoin rules under the GENIUS Act, a regulatory framework signed into law by President Trump last year.
The legislation establishes clear guidelines for stablecoins, which are crypto assets pegged to the US dollar, requiring each token to be fully backed by liquid assets such as cash or short-term US Treasuries.
The Treasury Department is specifically requesting public opinion on section 3 of the Act, which outlines who can issue and sell stablecoins in the United States.
According to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, 'President Trump and Congress delivered the GENIUS Act, establishing a landmark framework and clear rules of the road for payment stablecoins.'
