Treasury Unveils GENIUS Act Stablecoin Rules Amid 60-Day Comment Period

Share

The U.S. Treasury Department has proposed rules for stablecoins under the GENIUS Act, opening a 60-day public comment period.

The proposal represents a major step in establishing clearer requirements for payment stablecoins, including rules covering issuers, reserves, disclosures, supervision and consumer protections.

Stablecoins have become increasingly important across cryptocurrency markets and the broader financial system. They are designed to maintain a stable value, typically through a peg to the U.S. dollar, and are now widely used for trading, payments, settlement and moving capital across blockchain networks.

The Treasury's proposed regulations are intended to translate the legislation into operational requirements. The 60-day comment period gives financial institutions, cryptocurrency companies, consumer groups and other interested parties an opportunity to review the proposal and submit feedback before final rules are adopted.
