TRON Aligns with Ethereum in Mandatory Protocol Upgrade
The TRON network has released a mandatory upgrade to its GreatVoyage protocol, dubbed Pyrrho. The update, version v4.8.2, is required for all node operators to avoid disruptions in block synchronization. The deadline for the upgrade is August 16th at 23:59 Singapore Time.
The main change brought by this update is Ethereum compatibility at the virtual-machine level. This allows TRON's virtual machine to be aligned with Ethereum tooling, making it easier for developers to port and run smart-contract workloads between the two networks.
In addition to TVM compatibility, the upgrade also migrates the node's JSON API from fastjson to Jackson and upgrades monitoring metrics from InfluxDB to Prometheus. The TRON Event Plugin has also been upgraded to version 3.0.0, requiring operators using the plugin to update before upgrading their nodes.
The timing of this upgrade is significant as TRON hosts a large share of stablecoin activity, including a substantial portion of USDT supply. By aligning its TVM with Ethereum's latest upgrades, TRON positions itself to keep pace with the broader EVM ecosystem and provides developers with a clearer path for cross-chain compatibility.
