Tron Races Against Quantum Clock with Year-End Upgrade Plan
Tron founder Justin Sun announced at Bitcoin Asia 2026 in Hong Kong that the Tron network plans to implement quantum-resistant technology by the end of this year. The upgrade aims to protect the network against potential attacks from quantum computers, which pose a future threat to current cryptographic standards.
Sun said Tron has spent the past year developing quantum-resistant solutions and established a quantum-resistant address system in the first half of this year. This proactive approach contrasts with the broader cryptocurrency industry, where quantum resistance is still largely in the research phase.
Quantum computers could theoretically break the elliptic curve cryptography used by many blockchain networks, including Bitcoin and Tron. While such machines are not yet powerful enough to pose an immediate threat, experts warn that the industry must prepare for the “harvest now, decrypt later” scenario.
