TRON Takes Quantum Resistance Seriously: Building Post-Quantum Cryptography into Mainnet
TRON's founder Justin Sun has announced plans to make his blockchain network the first major public blockchain to deploy quantum-resistant cryptography on its mainnet. This move comes as a response to the growing threat of quantum computers, which could potentially break many existing crypto wallets.
The current form of mathematics used in most cryptocurrencies, called elliptic curve cryptography or ECDSA, relies on complex mathematical relationships that are difficult to reverse-engineer using classical computers. However, quantum computers operate differently and can evaluate enormous numbers of possibilities simultaneously, making them a threat to the security of many existing crypto wallets.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has developed post-quantum cryptographic standards in response to this threat, and TRON plans to deploy these standards directly onto its mainnet. This will make it the first major blockchain to offer built-in quantum resistance for ordinary users.
