TRON WLFI Dispute Escalates Over Freeze Rights
The TRON WLFI dispute between Justin Sun and World Liberty Financial has escalated after an August 20 court hearing in California. The two parties are locked in a $45 million investment lawsuit over allegations of hidden freeze controls and undisclosed administrative powers.
Zach Witkoff, co-founder of World Liberty, fired back at Sun on X by citing Tether's $4.4 billion freeze data, including nearly $344 million tied to the TRON network.
The dispute centers around Sun's investment in World Liberty's token contract and his subsequent claims that it contains hidden freeze controls. Witkoff countered that asset freezes are common industry practice, pointing to Tether's April 23 freeze of $212.9 million and $131.3 million on the TRON network.
The court has ordered both parties to negotiate which company claims belong in arbitration, while Sun's personal claims remain open for public scrutiny. The case is expected to influence token issuer freeze rights and how projects structure their smart contracts.
