TRON's Quantum Plan Exposes Key Replacement Risk
TRON's plan to become the first quantum-resistant blockchain network has a potential issue. According to a draft proposal, some migrated accounts may be unable to replace their keys after the network disables the signing scheme they depend on.
The problem arises from TRON's migration design, which allows governance to enable or disable each proposed signature scheme separately. If the disabled scheme is used for key management, account holders might still be able to make payments through a separate permission, but they won't have access to their keys.
To recover from this situation, holders would need the surviving keys that meet the account's existing owner threshold. However, if the remaining keys are not authorized to change permissions, the repair power will be out of reach.
