Trump Accepts Crypto Bill Ethics Deal Ahead of Senate Vote
The Senate is set to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity Act on Tuesday, which would divide digital-asset oversight between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission.
Senator Cynthia Lummis's office said the bill incorporates over 114 bipartisan amendments. The House passed a version of the bill in July 2025 that would divide oversight between the SEC and CFTC.
The reported ethics terms for President Trump include requiring officials to divest a significant financial interest in a cryptocurrency issuer or place it in a blind trust. Trump accepted about 80% of an ethics proposal developed by Senator Thom Tillis and Senator Ruben Gallego, according to a senior Republican aide who briefed reporters anonymously.
The bill's passage is not without obstacles, with Senators Josh Hawley and Rand Paul expected to oppose it on substantive grounds. The unresolved issues include the portion of the ethics proposal Trump reportedly did not accept, as well as rules governing stablecoin yield.
