Trump Accused of Profiting From Crypto Policy Shaping Amid Investor Losses

Senator Elizabeth Warren has accused President Trump of profiting from his administration's shaping of cryptocurrency policy. According to Warren, Trump made more than $1.4 billion in 2025 from various crypto ventures, including token sales and royalties. This figure far surpasses the roughly $1 billion estimate she mentioned earlier.

The details are contained in Trump's 2025 financial disclosure, which shows that his companies generated over $520 million from World Liberty Financial token sales and more than $635 million from Official Trump memecoin royalties. Additionally, Trump retained 15.75 billion World Liberty governance tokens valued above $50 million, while Trump-affiliated companies held as much as $160 million in Bitcoin (BTC) and Ethereum (ETH) at the end of 2025.

This is not the first time Warren has spoken out about potential conflicts of interest involving Trump's crypto dealings. In July, she called his earnings a 'scam'. She also highlighted that investors in Trump-linked crypto products have lost billions of dollars, with Public Citizen estimating at least $4.7 billion in losses.

The policy backdrop for these criticisms has sharpened Warren's criticism. Trump hosted cryptocurrency executives at the White House and urged Congress to pass a 'fair version' of the Clarity Act, which would establish clearer federal rules for digital assets. The administration has also implemented federal stablecoin rules while scaling back some Justice Department and Securities and Exchange Commission crypto enforcement.
