Trump Admin Teases 'Big Announcement' on $25B US Bitcoin Reserve
The US government's Bitcoin reserve is on the verge of a major announcement. Patrick Witt, Executive Director of the President's Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, told attendees at the Bitcoin Conference 2026 that 'a big announcement' around President Donald Trump's Bitcoin strategic reserve is expected within weeks.
Witt said officials have been working to resolve legal and operational questions tied to managing these holdings. The government currently holds an estimated 328,000 BTC in its coffers, valued at approximately $25.1 billion based on the current price of around $76,500 per Bitcoin.
Representative Nick Begich announced plans to reintroduce legislation under the ARMA Act to formalize Bitcoin as a reserve asset, similar in concept to US gold reserves. Witt noted that codifying this plan through legislation will be necessary, but the administration is poised to make significant progress from an executive branch perspective.
