Trump Administration Advances Crypto Rules Amid Congressional Gridlock
The Trump administration is pushing forward with new crypto rules, bypassing stalled legislation in Congress. President Trump met with crypto executives at the White House on Wednesday, urging them to work with regulators to advance the sector.
The meeting drew attendees including Coinbase and Robinhood CEOs, as well as SEC Chair Paul Atkins and Commodity Futures Trading Commission Chair Mike Selig. However, the Clarity Act remains stuck in the Senate due to disputed ethics language.
Separately, the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) is accelerating its regulatory timeline for stablecoins. Acting Comptroller Jonathan Gould announced plans to finalize federal rules by November, with the agency set to begin processing crypto license applications in January.
Gould noted that over 18 months, the OCC received 40 applications for new bank charters, with more than half involving digital asset activity. This marks an eightfold increase from the prior administration.
