Trump Administration Seeks Last-Ditch Support for Stalled Crypto Clarity Act
The Trump administration is making a last-ditch effort to convince Senators to advance the Crypto Clarity Act, which has been stuck in limbo for over a year. White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt expressed confidence that the bill's odds are improving, despite lingering disagreements over ethics rules and stablecoin regulation.
Witt stated at the Solana Policy Institute summit on September 14 that he feels 'very good' about the legislation's prospects, citing the administration's efforts to address every issue raised in the bill. He noted that Trump personally 'blessed' further ethics concessions after reviewing the provisions with advisers last Friday.
The latest version of the Clarity Act includes a provision allowing state attorneys general to pursue ethics violations involving federal officials, but it would not give them direct authority to target the president, vice president, members of Congress, or federal judges. Witt defended the changes, saying that Republicans have been cooperative throughout the process.
However, Democratic staff on the Senate Banking Committee argue that the restrictions are insufficient, as officials appointed by the president could retain too much control over enforcement.
