Trump Agrees to Bipartisan Crypto Bill Provisions After Months of Negotiations
President Donald Trump has agreed to key provisions in the Cryptocurrency Clarity Act, a bipartisan bill aimed at regulating digital assets. The agreement came after months of negotiations between White House officials and Republican senators. According to sources, Trump agreed to about 80% of the proposal from Senators Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), which included allowing state attorneys general to enforce the law.
The original bill had only a provision that barred federally elected officials and their spouses, as well as federal judges, from issuing digital assets. However, Democrats and some Republicans were concerned about conflict-of-interest issues related to Trump's crypto wealth. The updated bill will require officials with significant financial interests in entities that issue cryptocurrencies to either divest or place them in a blind trust.
State attorneys general will also be able to sue a cryptocurrency exchange if they list a digital asset that would be barred under the overall bill. White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt said, 'At every step of the way during the Clarity Act negotiations, the White House and Senate Republicans have been responsive to Democrats' stated policy objectives.'
