Trump Agrees to Crypto Bill Ethics Provision Amid Conflict-Of-Interest Concerns
President Donald Trump has agreed to most of a new ethics provision in a massive cryptocurrency bill set for a key vote this week, according to a senior GOP aide.
The provision would require federally elected officials and their spouses, as well as federal judges, to divest or place 'significant' financial interests in entities that issue cryptocurrencies into a blind trust. This includes any assets related to crypto exchanges.
A core group of Democrats had pushed for this change, citing concerns about conflict-of-interest issues with Trump's vast crypto wealth.
The updated bill will also give state attorneys general the power to sue a cryptocurrency exchange if they list a digital asset that would be barred under the overall bill. The White House did not comment on the agreement.
