Trump Agrees to Crypto Bill Provisions Amid Conflict-Of-Interest Fears
President Donald Trump has agreed to key provisions in a bipartisan cryptocurrency bill aimed at addressing conflict-of-interest issues surrounding his crypto wealth. The proposed law, set for a key vote on Tuesday, initially excluded federally elected officials and their spouses from issuing digital assets.
A group of Democrats, led by Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.), pushed for language allowing state attorneys general to step in and enforce the law alongside the Justice Department.
White House officials had raised concerns about granting state attorneys general this power, arguing it could be used as a political tool against Trump and other GOP officials.
However, a senior Republican aide stated that Trump agreed to approximately 80% of the proposal from Tillis and Gallego, including language allowing state attorneys general to enforce the law and sue crypto exchanges for listing barred digital assets.
