Trump Agrees to Crypto Ethics Rules Amid Landmark Vote on CLARITY Act

Share

US President Donald Trump has agreed to stricter ethics rules on his crypto holdings, giving Senate members momentum for passing the CLARITY Act this week. The concession came after weeks of debate from lawmakers who said the bill wouldn't get enough support without ethics restrictions on the President.

The updated bill, which includes over 120 changes made at the request of Democrats, would let state attorneys general enforce ethics rules on elected officials and judges. This provision had been a major sticking point for Democrats, who worried that Trump's appointed attorney general wouldn't act against him if needed.

Trump's agreement to the new ethics language is seen as a significant concession, with Senator Cynthia Lummis saying it will hold every federally elected official, judge, and their spouses to 'some of the toughest ethics restrictions in U.S. history.'
