Trump-Backed Crypto Bill Sparks Corruption Concerns in Colorado Senate
Colorado State Senator Katie Wallace is urging Senators John Hickenlooper and Michael Bennet to reject the CLARITY Act, a cryptocurrency bill backed by Donald Trump's administration. The senator claims that the bill is an executive branch cash-grab disguised as market regulation.
The bill attempts to restrict public officials from issuing coins for pay, but it cements loopholes around Trump's existing arrangements and exempts his adult children from the restrictions.
According to Senator Wallace, Trump has used the presidency to expand his family's massive crypto empire. Federal financial disclosures revealed that Trump banked over $1.4 billion in crypto income in a single year, including $635 million from his self-branded meme coin.
The senator is also critical of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) for granting conditional approval to World Liberty Financial, a crypto firm controlled by the Trump family, to operate as a national trust bank. This move, she claims, is a blatant pay-to-play abuse of executive authority.
