Trump-Backed Crypto Firm Tainted by Money Laundering Allegations
World Liberty Financial, a cryptocurrency platform founded by President Donald Trump's sons, has been under scrutiny after it received a $100 million investment from Guren 'Bobby' Zhou. Zhou is currently being investigated for money laundering allegations in the UK.
The report also mentions that Zhou was linked to a failed cryptocurrency start-up and emerged as a significant token buyer from World Liberty Financial via his UAE-based firm, Aqua 1. The company announced this investment through a Medium post without mentioning Zhou's involvement.
World Liberty Financial has been under the scanner for some time now, with Senate Democrats demanding hearings into a transaction involving Abu Dhabi royal Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who bought a 49% stake in the platform. The company's dealings have also come under scrutiny due to Trump's disclosure of earning over $580 million from World Liberty Financial in 2025, with his total cryptocurrency profits exceeding $1 billion.
A White House spokesperson responded that all actions taken by the Trump administration are done in the 'best interest of the American people,' while rejecting any suggestions of conflict of interest for the president or his family.
