Trump-Backed Crypto Venture Tied to Platform Hosting Restricted Chinese AI Models
World Liberty Financial, backed by President Donald Trump and his family, has partnered with WorldClaw, an AI platform based in Hong Kong. The partnership allows access to models developed by both US and Chinese technology companies. Some of these Chinese companies have been targeted by US government restrictions or national-security designations.
Among the 43 AI models provided by Chinese companies are those from Alibaba, Baidu, and Z.ai, which have been accused of misappropriating intellectual property from American developers. The US Department of Defense has designated Alibaba as a Chinese military-aligned company, preventing the Pentagon from conducting business with it.
The Trump administration's concerns about Chinese technology create tension between its policies and President Trump's financial connection to World Liberty. While the arrangement is not illegal, some argue that World Liberty's commercial relationship with WorldClaw could increase scrutiny of USD1 as a stablecoin expands into new payment use cases.
