Trump-Backed Firm Partners with WorldClaw to Offer AI Models from Restricted Chinese Companies
World Liberty Financial, backed by President Donald Trump's family, has partnered with Hong Kong-based WorldClaw to offer artificial-intelligence models developed by Chinese companies flagged for national security concerns.
The collaboration allows users to access AI models from restricted Chinese companies such as Alibaba and Baidu through WorldClaw's platform. The Chinese models are available alongside those from U.S. firms like OpenAI and Anthropic, and the Trump family earns revenue from the use of World Liberty's crypto tokens.
Seven experts on Chinese technology, trade, and government ethics have expressed concerns that this business collaboration contradicts the administration's stance towards Chinese tech companies. Sam Bresnick, a fellow at Georgetown University's Center for Security and Emerging Technology, called it 'hypocritical' to use tools from China while trying to respond to its rise.
World Liberty makes money from the use of its USD1 stablecoin, which is backed by traditional assets like U.S. Treasury securities. The Trump family earns a percentage of the interest earned on these assets, and their total earnings from World Liberty token sales exceed $1.4 billion.
