Trump-Backed WLFI Token Fails to Match Broader Crypto Rally
World Liberty Financial's governance token WLFI has failed to keep pace with the broader cryptocurrency market, according to recent data. Despite overall gains of 6.8% in total market capitalization during July, WLFI declined by over 7%. This performance is disappointing considering that blue-chip coins like Bitcoin and Ethereum netted good returns, with BTC increasing by 9.10% and ETH rising by 20.40%.
The decline of WLFI follows the disclosure that President Donald Trump earned more than $580 million from World Liberty Financial, which lists his sons as co-founders. The token has been trading since September 2025 but failed to bounce back after an initial spike, with its price currently down 88% from its all-time high.
WLFI's struggling performance has wiped out roughly $6 billion worth of investors' wealth since it peaked at $0.46. AirdropAlert founder Morten Christensen holds WLFI and expressed skepticism about the project's potential, stating that four-fifths of his holdings are locked in a two-year vesting period.
