Trump Backs Crypto Bill Changes Amid Conflict-of-Interest Concerns
President Donald Trump has agreed to significant changes in a bipartisan crypto bill, according to Republican senators. The legislation, which is set for a key vote on Tuesday, initially had provisions that barred federally elected officials and their spouses from issuing digital assets.
The original proposal did not go far enough to address conflict-of-interest issues related to Trump's crypto wealth, leading a core group of Democrats to demand language changes.
Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) and Sen. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) had pushed for state attorneys general to be given the power to enforce the law, in addition to the Justice Department.
In a statement, White House crypto adviser Patrick Witt said that Trump's agreement includes 'a meaningful role' for state attorneys general to play in enforcing the measure.
