Trump Backs Crypto Ethics Rules Ahead of Crucial CLARITY Act Vote
US President Donald Trump has agreed to new crypto-related ethics provisions as part of the CLARITY Act, ahead of its voting in the US Senate on September 15, 2026. The changes aim to strengthen the bill's ethics provisions by giving state attorneys general a role in enforcing the proposed law alongside the US Justice Department.
The updated bill would require officials to either divest or place in a blind trust any significant financial interest in an entity that issues cryptocurrencies. State attorneys general could also take legal action against a crypto exchange if it lists a digital asset that is prohibited under the legislation.
The CLARITY Act, which aims to create clearer federal rules for cryptocurrencies and digital assets, has been a topic of discussion among lawmakers. The bill would divide regulatory responsibilities between the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).
