Trump Boosts US Crypto Ambitions, Calls for Clarity Amid Global Competition
President Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining U.S. leadership in Bitcoin and cryptocurrency markets at a White House summit on Wednesday.
The event, which included executives from companies like Coinbase Global Inc., Robinhood Markets Inc., and Ripple, aimed to promote American dominance in emerging technologies such as prediction markets, artificial intelligence, and more.
Trump stated that the U.S. is currently the 'hottest country' globally and urged Congress to pass the CLARITY Act, which he claims will keep America ahead of China.
The act, also known as the 'Clearing and Tailored Regulatory and Innovative Technologies for Yield' bill, aims to provide regulatory clarity in the crypto space, potentially boosting innovation and investment.
When asked about the administration's plans to accumulate Bitcoin or other cryptocurrencies, Trump replied that it has been 'talked about,' but would likely rely on SEC Chairman Paul Atkins and his team for a decision. He added that if recommendations are made, he would 'certainly listen.'
