Trump Denies AI Dangers as US Leads China in Advancement
US President Donald Trump spoke out on the AI industry at his Ireland golf course, calling 'very negative forces' that are bringing up concerns about its rapid advancement.
'We're leading China in AI. We're the most sophisticated country in the world, and frankly I want to keep it that way because whoever wins AI wins,' Trump said when asked if the industry should slow down or be more regulated.
His comments come after a week of warnings from two Anthropic researchers that rapidly progressing artificial intelligence could lead to human extinction. These concerns have led some AI CEOs to push for slowing the advancement of models, with Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei outlining a three-step framework intended to pace development and manage its risks.
Trump has resisted stirring up concerns about AI, and his administration has largely embraced AI firms, which in turn have supported his initiatives. However, the Pentagon earlier this year warned of risks from Anthropic's model.
