Trump Dismisses AI Extinction Fears as Researchers Sound Alarm on RSI

President Trump has expressed his confidence that artificial intelligence (AI) will not lead to human extinction, despite warnings from researchers at top AI labs. When asked about the possibility of AI wiping out humanity, Trump replied simply: 'No, I don't have any.'

His comments came as a growing number of insiders at OpenAI and Anthropic raised serious safety concerns. Researchers are warning that speeding towards recursive self-improvement (RSI) is 'hard to overstate how dangerous it is.' RSI occurs when an AI model gains the ability to improve its own performance without human help.

OpenAI chief scientist Jakub Pachocki expressed his concern that no one is prepared for the consequences of rapid machine intelligence growth. He stated: 'I am concerned no one is prepared for the consequences of a continued rapid rise in machine intelligence.'

Congress is moving to act on these concerns, with two new bills aiming to increase AI oversight. The FRONTIER Act would set rules for deploying advanced AI models, while the Ban Artificial Superintelligence Act would temporarily pause advanced AI development until safety rules are put in place.
