Analysts have pegged the likelihood of the summit happening at over 90%, with many expecting a one-year extension of the existing bilateral trade truce to be agreed upon. Additionally, discussions on artificial intelligence governance are expected, focusing on establishing guardrails for military applications of AI and potential cooperation on safety standards.

Technology stocks have been sensitive to shifts in export control policy and the trajectory of the bilateral relationship. An extension of the trade truce would remove a near-term source of uncertainty for sectors tied to physical trade, including agricultural exporters, manufacturers with Chinese supply chain dependencies, and retailers sourcing goods from Chinese factories.
