Trump Family Moves Billions in Crypto, Leaving Investors on Edge
A quiet filing in the crypto world has sparked concerns that the Trump family is preparing to sell their assets and leave investors high and dry.
The controversy centers around World Liberty Financial, a company co-founded by Donald Trump Jr. and Eric Trump, which issues two cryptocurrencies: WLFI and WorldClaw.
According to reports, four anonymous digital wallets simultaneously transferred over 20 billion $WLFI tokens into a new 'vesting contract' on May 19.
The move has raised eyebrows because the amount of crypto moved matches the exact amount awarded to Donald Trump when setting up World Liberty Financial. Similarly, three other transactions match the amounts given to other relatives of the president.
However, Eric Hageman, a lawyer for the company, claims that nothing suspicious is going on, citing a governance proposal approved by WLFI token holders that obligated founders to burn 10% of their holdings.
But experts disagree, pointing out that the rules state founders have the option to elect less favorable unlock terms or remain indefinitely locked. They could have stuck with the indefinite lock, said Molly White, a crypto expert who runs a newsletter covering crypto and tech policy.
